Award information: The internship will consist of a 2-week stay at the IDeA National Resource for Quantitative Proteomics located at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas. Food, lodging, and travel costs will be covered through the internship program. The internship program will also cover the cost of sample preparation, reagents, consumables, instrument time, and bioinformatics support for a 10-plex TMT or 20-sample DIA proteomics experiment.

Eligibility: Applicants must be a current graduate student or post-doc from an IDeA state with an active research project aligned with the mission of the National Institute for General Medical Sciences.

Pre-submission consultation: To be eligible to apply, applicants will schedule a pre-submission consultation with Dennis Province, PhD (Proteomics_Internship@uams.edu) to be conducted by April 14, 2023.

Content and form of application submission: Applications are limited to 2 pages (11pt font, single spaced, 0.5 inch margins) and should include the following sections: Project Overview (outlining the specific research question), Preliminary Studies (providing example data to support the proposed proteomics analysis), Quality Control Data (provide evidence of sample quality such as a gel image, verification of 50 micrograms of protein or 25 microliters of plasma/serum, and details on sample homogenization including buffer components), and Data Utilization (discussing how the proteomics data will be used to support work within the scope of NIGMS). An optional pre-submission consultation may be used to determine whether TMT or DIA proteomics would be most appropriate for the study.

Other documents for submission: Applicant NIH Biosketch, PI NIH Biosketch, PI NIH Other Support document, and PI Letter of Support for Applicant (confirming availability to attend internship), Proof of current immunization required by UAMS Student and Employee Health is required before a visit to the site can be arranged.
